Default Optima Batteries...WHY better?

OK, so my battery died today and I need to get a new one. I know Optima has a great reputation (altho pricey), but what makes them so good? Why should I spend that much on a battery?

Click on the arrow in the Yellow Circle next to Optima Advantage. There's a lot of answers in there.

I once knew a guy who built his own battery for an engineering class... it worked for a good 6 months too, until his less-than-great construction quality resulted in it exploding and throwing battery acid all over the interior of his engine bay, as well as damaging his hood. That was the end of his Corolla...
