Stripped/jammed oil drain plug thread
Two oil changes back, I was told that they couldn't reach the rated torque on my drain plug. (Should have gone back to the previous mechanic right away, but didn't, too late now.)
Latest change, mechanic had a tough time getting plug back in (no problem with torque now!).
The good news is that it doesn't leak at all, but I don't expect that situation to hold through another change, and I'm due soon.
Has anybody had luck with an oversize repair? I see kits with a drill bit, reamer, and tap to go up in size. Also, if I try that and it succeeds, I'd like to put in a valve with the quarter-turn lever - has anybody used one of those?
If I try the repair, I plan to grease the drill, reamer, and tap to capture shavings, and maybe rinse the pan with the old oil, perhaps several times, straining between passes.
Thanks.
