How To: Paint and Prep OEM and Aftermarket Lips/Skirts
A flex coat additive will give the paint the ability to flex without chipping. Same deal to what the adhesive promotor does but instead the additive is mixed in with the paint. Getting either the flex coat additive or the adhesive promotor is a good thing to have to ensure the paint will stick onto the plastic surfaces.
Check the sticky up top. You can use that as a reference for painting side moldings too. The only difference is you can leave the side moldings on the car and just mask off the doors with masking tape and newpaper. Try to get at least 2 layers of newpaper because the paper might get soaked and the paint might bleed through. Good luck and watch for overspray.
Hi I painted my side skirts and they came out great. But to get the skirts off, I had to snap off some of the plastic screws and molly bolts. They didn't want to come off. Does anyone know where I can get a few of those??
Thanks for the link. I'll take a look. So when I painted and clear coated my skirts they came out better then I expected, but I wish they came out with some more shine to it. I used Plastikote brand base color and clear coat. Can anyone recommend a clear coat that would offer more shine? I am going to be painting some side view mirrors and I really want them to shine. Do you think the skirts will look better after I give them a coat of wax? I didn't want to wax them yet. I wanted to give them a week for the paint to cure correctly. Thanks for all of your advice.
