I am trying to replace the back brake pads on my 2000 Accord and I am having a problem getting thee piston pushed back into the caliper. I have loosened the bleeder valve and tried removing the hose bolt and I still cannot get it pushed back with moderate force. Is there some trick to this? I have never had this problem before with other vehicles.

 

use a c-clamp or tool that looks like it designed for pushing back the caliper

 

I have tried that and it doesn't budge.
Would the position of the emergancy brake have any thing to do with it?

 

It seems that there is somewhat of an engineering problem at Honda.

when i redid my brakes i just manually squeezed them together with my fingers..? mine was a 93 honda civic though...
did you uncap the brake resevoir under the hood? or does that even matter?

 

Usually the back brake caliper pistons must be rotated to turn them back in. They make a special tool to do it with. Otherwise, carefully use a channel locks to turn it back in.

 

the front calipers need to be pushed in with a c clap and the rears need to be rotated back in. I use needle nose pliers to rotate the piston back in.
