My 97 Civic LX 5-speed was stolen yesterday and actually recovered pretty quickly, but the thieves busted the ignition switch cylinder/lock where it connects to the steering column and I guess since the steering wheel lock pin is enclosed in there, it's offline too. It appears to be a pretty straightforward swap to replace the whole cylinder/lock assembly (since the actual electronic part of the ignition switch screws off and is fine), but a couple things i've read make me think I might be understimating it (especially since the dealer wanted $282 in labor to fix it). Other than drilling out the shear-head bolts, and getting the right ignition cylinder (e.g., for a manual x-mission), is there anything else that I need to look out for? Anyone have a helms man., that you could look at for me?
