This is specifically for the 9006 bulbs for our 7th Gen Low Beams. I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what the silver coating is on top of the Silverstar bulbs... The OEM bulbs have a black top but aftermarket ones usually have a silver coating. The reason I ask is because I bought a pair, and notice that one light is substantially yellower than the other (which is whitish blue). Upon closer inspection, I found that the yellower bulb's silver coating was slightly peeling off.... Can i replace this coating or go for new bulbs ?

 

I don't beleave you can. Just replace the bulb

 

i think that the coating is to prevent to light from dispersing straight out, u want the bulb to send the light through to sides and behind the bulb, that way it hits the crome reflector on the back of your headlights and then will project out. it makes for better light. the coating difference is mo major thing to my knowledge, i think its just that like different companies use different products, although they do the same thing they simply look different. Yellowish bulbs can mean a part of it is burnt, maybe from oil or residue that was on it then burnt when the light was turned on, this has happened to me. your best bet is to do what VTEC recommended and purchase new ones.

 

The bulb just looks really yellow when it's on, compared to the other one. When I removed it last night to check, I found the silver coating thing peeling off on that bulb. The bulb is still completely blue (or blue coated) up until the part where the silver is (or was).... The glass underneath the silver coating that peeled off, is not coated with as dark blue of a coating as the rest of the bulb and that's why I think it looks a little yellow when it's on. Cause the light is escaping from the non-coated part which is supposed to be covered....

Now I'm going to ask a rather stupid question....

Is there any way I can be CHEAP and somehow cover up the top portion of the bulb which was supposed to be covered anyway by the silver stuff to avoid buying new bulbs??

 

Just buy new bulbs. It's not worth the hassle to try and "fix" bulbs.
