Default installing a speed sensor for a 1990 Accord

I just purchased a used 1990 Accord LX and the speedo is on part time. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Also the "S" symbol on the dash blinks. I have been led to beleive that this is a speed sensor problem. One person at the local auto parts store had no idea on where it was. Another said that it was inside the tranny. I purchased the book for the car and as usual it had a bevy of great information but nothing on what I was looking for. Please fill me in on where in the heck this is and how to replace it. I know that it costs about 135 bucks, so I am open to other sudjestions as to what could be the cause of my speedo problems. Thank you in advance to whom ever for your help.

The speed sensor should be sticking out of the top of the tranny.
