Hello... Need Help
Hello All,
I'm pretty new at this, so I'm just going to ask the question, and if anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. For some reason, my cigarette lighter doesn't work in my 96' Integra. I need to use it to charge my phone. I already checked the fuse and all is ok. The guy who had the car before me hooked up an amp, which I'm not currently using, but I'm not sure if somehow one has to do with the other. I'm just throwing that out there. So if anyone can help me to figure this out, I would be really happy...
Thanks

Could be the slides on the calipers sticking. Take the bolt out the caliper and try and slide them out. If they don't slide out they are probably the cause of the noise. To unstick them drift them out cafefully and clean the slide up with a wire brush. Give them a light coat with copper grease and refit them. Any better?

A) element on the lighter is bad/ lighter needs replaced
B) it got unhooked/unplugged when the amp was being hooked up.
C) you didn't check the fuses under the hood, or missed one
D) something else
if it's A just buy a new lighter, simple to replace (on most cars, i don't know what you have
if it's B take the stereo out and check the wiring with a light tester
if it's C, then the answer's simple
if it's D, then I can't really help you, sorry

My guess, is what already assume happened (by mentioning the amp)... The lighter in my CRX is only on with the car, so I assume yours is the same... Some ppl, specially those who install stereos themselves, dont know how to wire the amp, to where it only comes on with the car... Some decks have a remote turn on lead, most dont... So a viable option, is simply wire up to a fuse, or other wire, thats only on when the car is on... So what I think happened, is the guy either spliced into the cig lighter wire and never hooked it back up to the lighter, or he hooked it up, and it came loose... Trace the wires back, chances are he spliced it right near where the radio goes somewhere (since they are in the same general area usually)...
If u cant find the problem at all, I say just wire it straight to your radio positive (either on all the time, if u want it on all the time, or with the ignition on if u only want it on with the car), and then ground it out to the chasis somewhere... I reccomend you dont just ground it out to the wire on your radio!
