actually tool, i work all night and somehow stumbled on to this retarded thread.
/ yourself and your car.
Don't put your plastic taillights in the oven! I just recently did a job on my CRX taillights; they were leaking water in. Oven is fine for the headlights(did that myself recently, too), but for the taillights I recommend filling the kitchen sink up with the hottest water that will come out and soak your taillights till the glue softens up enough to pull it apart. I took pics of the process so hopefully I'll get around to putting together a DIY thread for it.
I used the oven on my g/fs altezzas, her red reflector popped out of place, and I had to glue it back... Imagine that happening on a nice set of APC altezza tail lights! (note the sarcasm) Anyways, the oven idea sortof worked for me, I just broke peices of the lens off prying it apart... And part of the chrome does look like kinda weird... Bumbly... So maybe the oven idea isnt so great on aftermarket tails... Id try pacific dudes idea out, sounds much safer... Good news is she opted to buy a set of 50/50 tails (top is white, bottom is red) and ditch the tezzas soon as they come in!
yeah, with crx's and 92-95 civics headlites which the outer lense is glass, and the back is gray plastic the oven idea will work fine.....
on my 97 ex i had the gen.1 alteezas, with the red ovals......what i did, i used a heat gun, putty knife, flat blade screwdriver.......heat up the the plastic gray lip that encases the lense, once it starts heating up, you'll be able to bend it up...do that all the way around, then carefully pull the lense off....but just so you know, theres also glue in there, and you might need to cut some of it away with a razor blade to completely get the lens out....i taped off the red reflector and the small chrome area around the turn signal bulb, and then sprayed all the chrome black....once done, put the lens back on, heated up the lip, and bent them back down into place, then applied some clear silicone around the seam so it wouldn't leak................but also so you know, i did this 3 years ago.....tezzas are played out, rewound and played out again.
