HID upgrades
Anyone know of the HID laws in Texas? Some of the manufacturers state their kits are for off road or show car only. I scanned thru some of the laws and didn't see anything, but it could be buried deeper in the bureaucracy.......
If you are buying HID's for just color, then yes, it is not worth the money.
If you are buying HID's for better lighting using lower wattages, then they are worth the money.
To my understanding, HID's (aftermarket) are illegal in all states, unless for 'show or offroad use'.

To Begin with i'm from Texas, HIDs were never to begin with. NTHS never "legalized" HID from factory cars. Just that the ricer companies brought "colorful" so called HID Kits out, which stured up the HIDs being illegal or what not, and only thing wrong with these, is that they are illegal to sell. "but that doesnt mean they are illegal to put in my car right?" Well, that is governed by state law and in most states its illegal to modify your stock housings.
Second thing. HIDS thrown into halogen housings can mean disaster. There is no one kit that will guarantee perfect results because housings differ from car to car.
The thing is, what most people don't comprehend, is that they are putting bulbs that put out 3 times the output that their stock halogens do, into a housing that is NOT EVEN CLOSELY designed to handle HID. This goes for projectors or reflectors.
Now i have seen good results in some cars. But its very rare. ANd most of these cars that put out good results had e-spec housings, or newer projectors.
We're talking about the lovely H4 housings which try and use a bulb that has 2 filaments for high and low.
HEre's some pics of hondas that i've seen. one was on this board, and i'm sorry if it offends you, but this is the ugliest thing i've ever seen in my life interms of throwing in a kit.

You Can See the sharp cut off line and no glares at all.. while the car is driving.. you are getting the "color" out of it... although you are still getting a great light output ..
for you H4/9003 Housing people you can buy HID Kit and reduce your "glare" by buying these.
Even though you are going to get glares..it just reduces it.. Only good way to go is RETRO Fit. Picture of 96-98 Civic with E55 BMW Projectors Retroed into the car...

Most people buy HID Kit because of the "Color" output they give like the factory BMW, Benz, S2K, Acura, Etc. And obviously you are losing white light anything that's above 6000K.
Like waht Max Windu said buying HID kit for color is waste of money, but buying a HID Kit (OEM or 5300K below) is a good investment.
Either way you are going to spend $280 - $500 on an aftermarket HID Kit, the OEM runs $200 - $300, buy OEM Projectors ($170) and retro yourself... it is not hard, just gatta have some creative minds..

Pros:
Plug and play usually
Can take out and used Halogen bulbs if you sell your car
Dont have to open your housings up
Looks stock
Cons:
Results vary
Illegal on the road
Usually non-quality components used ( i empasize USUALLY)
lose your high beams in most cases
pricey for the results you get
Pros & Cons on OEM/Retro HID Kit
Pros:
Good Cut off
Great Light output
it's OEM!!!
cons:
factory stand point none
retro stand point, AIMing is hard.

99/00 Civic 1st Gen projectors, with Audi S4 Valeo projectors, Audi A4 HID Kit ... =] single non-bi xenon .. but it'll work
