Default Should I attempt timing belts? 95 Accord

I am coming up on 200,000 and considering if I should attempt to change the timing belts and water pump myself or........................get out the checkbook?

Any thoughts out there?

My first thought is we have no clue about your skill level. Or how big of a collection of tools you own. So what's the most difficult job you've done on your car (any car?) so far? And how did it go?

Hey fellas thanks for the reply and sorry about the missing info.

I have an extensive tool collection and the ability to use them all effectively. I have replaced the belt on an 84 accord, not too tough. The 95 VTEC apears to have more stuff to do and less room in which to do it.

If you have a good guide or service manual that oulines the procedure for you, and the time to do it it looks like you would be in a good position to tackle the job yourself. Just make sure you hae a crank pulley tool and a high-torque impact wrench to get the crank pulley off. The rest of the job is pretty straightforward. I've never don an accord or a VTEC but I just did my 94 Integra LS this past weekend. Set aside about 8 hours - could be done in less if things go smoothly.

I don't think it's all that much different. Since you've done a belt before, you can make an intelligent judgement about the lack of space. You can probably take out the plastic inner fender liner pretty easily. You've already had to deal with a crankshaft pulley so you know what that's like.

Here's where I'm not really sure - the '84 didn't have balance shafts while the '95 has em (right??). So there's an extra belt & more timing marks to line up. Find a shop manual & make sure you understand how the timing marks line up.

Another thing... The '95 should have had a recall done for the balance-shaft seal retainers, right? If not, that's something to do while you're in there. Who knows what years are covered by that?
