NEED HELP!!! Installing CRX rear seat
My wife is having a baby and I don't want to lose the car. I snagged a rear seat off of Ebay but now I need to install it. I have the seat, seat belts, and rear storage compartments. What do I do from here???
cmon man... your gona try to put a baby in the back of a crx... a crx... you must not love your child. buy a new car man DO NOT GET RID OF THE CRX!!! but you need to buy a new car
Anything you may want to do won't be legal in any sort of way with a CRX back seat.
American Market CRX's didn't come with back seats, they are "2 seaters", even if you buy one from Japan it's not legal because the American models didn't have them.
Anyways, install it if you want, put your kid in their too, just don't come crying back here when your friends the cops impound your car, take away your license, and give your kid to a foster home.

Hi
A bit hard to explain without pics, i'll try to explain it but mail me anyway for more details. The most important part is - does the usdm CRX have all the pre-drilled & threaded holes that the jdm and edm crx'es have. That has to be checked. Also, excuze my bad english on some technical descriptions
- Remove your existing pockets, storage box and whatever usdm crx'es have on the back. You should see the body & if i remember well - part of the fuel tank. CAREFULLY when you work in that area, needless to say if you smoke - that's not the best moment to light up one.
- First mount the seatbelts. I don't know if there are pre-drilled & threaded holes in usdm crx'es, i guess they should be there. The short parts of the seatbelts go in the center, the long ones - on each side, and there's a cut in the pockets (the ones you boughtà where the seatbelt goes through).
- The seat itself is easy to mount - there are two metal "mounts" (don't know if it's the right word for such a thin thing) in the front of the seat, one on each side - they go in two matching cuts in the body. To put them in the seat has to be held vertically, and once they're in, you can put it horizontally. Once done, you can seure the back part of the seat (there's re same sort of "mount" on the back of the seat, in its center). Even if you don't put this third bolt, it's not so important -the seat won't move, as there are some velcro parts on it. If you don't have the holes, you can try to put much velcro and secure somewhere with just one bolt - the seat is very light anyway.
- Now the seatback. That one can be tricky, depending on how good you want your installation to be.
Tha backseat comes with two articulated brackets (black, one on each side), which bolt each from one side to the seatback and from the other to a matching metal mount welded on the wheel well. To fit them there, you need to remove the whole plastic trim on each side, the one that goes in the trunk. The problem is, there are 50% chance you didn't get the articulated brackets (they are often missing in the kits), and there are 90% chances that you don't have the mounts welded on the wheel wells.
If this is the case, don't panic. This ones are useful if you want to fold the seatback (that's why they are articulated), but if you can't/don't want to do the whole oem install, you can replace them by some part of flexible metal you'll fit to your needs and which you can buy in any hardware store.
- To secure the seatbacks, you have two more points - the latches on which the seatback locks once in vertical position. I can't describe that well without pics, it's similar to the way a Civic Hatch seatbacks clips, and the latches are as far as i know the same as on an integra frome the early nineties. But to fit this in, cuts have to be made in the plastic trim on each side.
Anyway, mail me back for more info, i'll be able to make pics on my french crx rear seat during the weekend. It's not a hard fit, except if you try to make it strictly OEM. What i would do if i was you is to secure the seatbelts the right way, and to find a way to secure the seatback a bit even if it doesn't fold anymore.

I doubt a Police officer would even know that the backseat was not availiable
in USDM Crx's.If the item looks stock they won't even give it a second look.
Thats where OEM overseas stuff is a plus. It's stock/optional,just not on these shores.
But i do agree,it's bad enough riding in a Rex,yet alone putting your kid in the backseat of "go kart"
For anyone interested, here is a link to the CRX-UK Owners Group. Under the Downloads section there is a link to a UK CRX Workshop Manual.pdf (~17Mb).

(assembly would therefore be the reverse of disassembly)
