6x9 install
I got a 98 Integra RS
I just bought Bazooka 6x9 speakers. I thought it would be easy to replace the rear speakers with the 6x9s but that didn't turn out to be the case. I just ended up ripping out some foam and giving up because I couldn't even take out the stock speakers.
Am I supposed to remove the interior panels to get to the speakers? Will 6x9 speakers even mount there?
HELP!!

Its a hatch...
but all my buddies are laughing at me for thinking that those speakers will fit in the back HA.
Oh well ... lesson learned ... I think I'm going to mount em on the hatch cover

Hey, whoa there. I bought speakers that were too big (Alpine 6 3/4" that had to fit into a 6.5" hole). I ended up boring out the plastic speaker mount and then mounting the plastic speaker mount slightly differently so that they fit. I did, however, remove all of my rear panels in order to get access. You could possibly remove the rear speaker mounts, cut them in half and then mount the 2 halves on your 6X9s. See my pic with the red line. You would then have to creatively align the these modified (halved) speaker mounts to make sure the paneling still fits. So, depending on how much work and creativity and how much of a DIYer you are, you can do it. I don't know about mounting them to the hatch cover, are you going to put holes in the hatch cover then so that the speakers are notproducing sound into the hatch cover? Good Luck with whatever you do and try and let me know what you ended up doing. I do have more pics, of my 96 LS Teg with speakers and things, so if you want to see what's beneath all the paneling or more speaker shots, let me know.
Hey thanks for the reply Josher
Yeh can u send me some pics or step by step on removing those inner pannels. I'm gonna give this a try, but I've got this bad habit of breaking clips and things when working on interiors. I definatly got lessons to learn in patience.
anyways ... thanks for the help!

I don't know how long you feel like waiting, but this weekend I could make a pdf of how to do it (using pages from crutchfield instructions and helms manual) with a bunch of applicable pics I shot of my own car during real paneling removal. I'll make it available to download from my (poorly designed) website. You likely have a project ahead of you. I almost did the 6X9s in my car, but opted instead for the 6 3/4, which I wrongly thought stock was. Anyways, I'll help you out as much as I can.
