Hey, whoa there. I bought speakers that were too big (Alpine 6 3/4" that had to fit into a 6.5" hole). I ended up boring out the plastic speaker mount and then mounting the plastic speaker mount slightly differently so that they fit. I did, however, remove all of my rear panels in order to get access. You could possibly remove the rear speaker mounts, cut them in half and then mount the 2 halves on your 6X9s. See my pic with the red line. You would then have to creatively align the these modified (halved) speaker mounts to make sure the paneling still fits. So, depending on how much work and creativity and how much of a DIYer you are, you can do it. I don't know about mounting them to the hatch cover, are you going to put holes in the hatch cover then so that the speakers are notproducing sound into the hatch cover?
