Timing?

Bird in intake box?

Air, Fuel, Spark

If it starts then cuts off could be clogged something, intake - fuel filter or fuel pump starting to go bad - bad wires, plugs, or distributor.

May sound stupid but i dunno... is the coil separate from the distributor? Could be coil or coil wire.

Is it throttle body injected or carborated?

Has it started to smoke recently? (clogged pcv valve)

You wanna sell it?

its injected, no it hasn't smoked at all, i was going to trade it for a 94 Probe GT lol, unless I fix it I won't be trading it

But, would it being clogged anywhere cause it to backfire? I've drove a car with the fuel pump about to go out and it didn't backfire at all, just cut off every now and then..i dunno just looking for some suggestions on what to check

I would pull off the distributor cap and check the condition of the cap and rotor. Make sure it's clean and dry in there and/or just replace the car and rotor.

Uncle came over today, had me crank it and it sounds timing related I say, he agrees, take off the valve cover and the timing cover, belt is still in tact, gears look decent..and it is firing, just sounds like the timing is WAY off, My uncle says that he thinks the tensioner is broken..anyone know how much a tensioner would be?

 Damn straight, with the 2.5L V6 hope its 5speed
If its got low miles on it then go for that, must be 5speed though. The automatics have some problems

I'll almost guarantee its a distributor problem. But check your timing anyway.

Default timing tensioner

well, my uncles thinks its the timing tensioner, we went to pull off the harmonic balancer to get to it and guess what..we called the honda dealer and the harmonic balancer bolt calls for almost 1000ft lbs of torque

anyone know any way around that? because we have to rent an air compressor and a 3/4 air gun, ugh!#@$
