Check muffler and pipe hangers, then try CAT heat sheild (don't clamp them up with hose tighteners.... thats so ****in getto), and about the reverse... if its a manual transmission your not using enough clutch.

I had something like that a few times:

The first was a rusted out heat shield (that sits near the brakes) that was sitting near the wheel, barely hanging on, it didn't do anything when I went forward...but there was a loud metal on metal scraping sound when I went in reverse > check your heat shields.

Next I had put on a new muffler and when I did I had angled it wrong under the car...and every time I backed up (for some paranormal reason only when I backed up) it would rattle on the underside of the car > Check that no parts of your exhaust are vibrating against the car.

Third...do you know that little piece of 1/4" MDF that covers the wheel well under the carpet ? Believe it or not > Check to make sure that it is not out of place or that something under it is not vibrating against it...it's hard to believe I know...but that thing can vibrate like crazy back there!

Hope this helps...

Jason

Oh I just had another thought...right now I need a new Ball joint up on my right front side...usually the sound coming from it is localized to the front right...but sometimes it sounds like it's coming from all over the place...you might wanna check those...

J
