Is there somewhere on your engine that it is stamped, marked, chiselled, engraved...whatever... the actual model of the engine?

I believe that my enginve is a D15B1 SOHC but I'm not sure...is there a physical marking on it that tells you?

I know this is probably a dumb question but...bare with me...

Same on most I4 and I5 engines. It will probably be covered in black grime, just wipe it off and it will be there.

That didn't do it...is it behind the manifold heat sheild? because I can't see that spot anywhere...?

Left of the manifold, on the edge that the transaxle bolts to. Just follow down the side of the engine until you see a rectangular flat spot, and wipe it off. The engine code, the block serial number, and "HM" should be stamped there. Sometimes it is really faint, but it should be there.

 

I think I found it...but there is a whole bunch of thick sludgy greasy crap on there ...I have to do an engine clean soon...so hopefully I should be able to get to it. What I scraped off didn't reveal anything...
there was a 'sticker' right beside that flat spot that started with an "L3" and then a bunch of numbers...what do you suppose that was?

What's "HM" by the way...sorry if that's a stupid question.

The HM means Honda Motors.

 

Dude its there just scrub harder.

 

yah a good amount of degreaser was necessary to find it on a few of the engines i had that had valve cover gasket leaks which had laid down years of grime, but it was there sure enough after about a half pound of black oil and dirt, ive had complete spider webs around my transmission even after driving the car for 3 months that never got cleaned off with the radiator fan blowing so.... its good to get in there and clean up every so often

 

Gunk Foamy Engine Brite does wonders.
