Looking for D15B
I'll be in the market for a D15B for an 89 Civic LX in the coming weeks. Does anyone know of any reputable places to find a D15B? I'm in the Eastern U.S., so something close would be good. I've checked out Nippon motors, which has really good prices, but i'm looking to keep the shipping costs down.
well ive got one sitting in my garage, dont know where ud find one on the east coast though, they should be pretty cheap just a long block should only be about 200-300, why not upgrade to a better block? get a zc or something cheap like that and use the ecu that comes with it and switch it over to mpfi?
Here is a source: Hemminger Auto & Truck. 1-877304-0255 and ask for Goody. These people are near Jennerstown, PA and are simply amazing at what they can find. They are members of the locator network too. FWIW-my dealer uses them for parts too.
i've thought about getting a better block or a total swap....right now its the only car I have and its engine has a ring or a valve problem...with the price that is charged around here to do major repair work I can just as easily change out the engine myself in a weekend.....thanks for the tip in Pennsylvania, I'm actually in West Virginia so it will be a lot closer
u can do a d16 Si block, or a zc block for not too much more install in just as easy as installing the d15, in order to maximize ur hp potention ur gonna have to do a swap to mpfi, instead of the dpfi i believe the lx had but im not sure what the lx came with, hopefully someone else will chime in with more info on that, but id suggest using a better block with more hp, difference is only gonna be like 50 bucks for like 30 more hp, i know of no cheaper way to get more hp than to go to a slightly larger block if ur already planning or in need of replacing ur current one
u can probably get a much better price than this if u search for it but id look for something like this

How would a switch to a ZC or d16 effect the other stock components of the LX model? In particular I'm thinking of the transmission (its an automatic) and the ECU. I noticed that some of the ZC or d16 engines came with their required fuel injection....would that require any other adjustment with the stock fuel delivery setup? Sorry about all the questions but I'm new to swapping engines.
zc and d16 as long as u get the right years are direct bolt over swaps, as far as the drivetrain goes, you keep ur current transmission, axles, etc. suspension has nothign to do with it. i dont know if u have mpfi or dpfi (multiport fuel injection 4 ports or dual port fuel injection 2 ports?) but most engine long blocks come with the fuel rails attached ud just have to get the correct ecu if u dont already have mpfi to recognize the additional 2 fuel injectors
