sohc vtec in 91 hatch
My motor is pretty much completely shot in my 91 si hatch. I am limited on money and I have come across a sohc vtec for 400 bucks with no tranny. I am wondering how much better this motor will do and if it will work with the si tranny. also if it's worth the money.

D16Z6 or D16Y8? It makes a difference.
Both work with the Si transaxle, and both will show fair gains (~17hp, 5ft-lbs) over the stock engine. The price is OK for both engines if it comes with an ECU and all... though you'll have to do more work then just swapping it because your car is OBD-0, the Z6 is OBD-1 and the Y8 is OBD-2.

if i was u i would do the complete obd swap. i don't like hacking the distributer because they tend to leak. they run ok. you have to use your si tranny, harnes, clutch, flywheel, and the mounts from youe d16.

check http://www.thepartstrader.com for some good deals... I picked up a 95 GS-R head on there for $250, and after I totaled the car I intended to put it on, I listed it on Ebay. It sold for $590, so I obviously got a good deal on partstrader
