What is the Civic 1500 S?

I've seen two of em runnin around San Diego. Are they different from the Si? Older perhaps?

If it's a 3rd gen, it's basically a DX. The 1984-85 S (sport) had fancy things like a tach.

The 1986-87 Si added fuel injection.
