I took my car out for a test drive after it had been out of commision for about 6 months. Everything seemed cool but when I hit 85 (in 4th gear) it stopped going faster, when I switched into 5th it made some weird sound and stayed at 85. What is wrong?

Did it have any problem accelerating after you had come to a stop. Did you get a check engine light, Also see if your getting any codes.......

It didn't have any trouble accelerating after I came to a stop. It only seems to happen when I switch to 5th gear.

Yeah if gas sits around it can get moisture in it and it also deteriorates over time.

does it decelerate or does it just not have pull? strange things can happen when a car sits for a while, i agree with the guys above, use up that gas tank, then add a whole new tank of new gas with some fuel injector cleaner, also may want to do a general tune up, if while sitting things got kinda crusty, check ur air filter, etc.

it decelrates each time it gets up to that point. i am going to use up the gas real soon, get some new stuff, get some fuel injector cleaner, and have a nice tuneup done.

the 4th and 5th gear engage properly thought right? if so then id say do what was before posted and hopefully ur problems will go away
