a buddy of mine has a 91 b16a with a vtec problem. here it is:
vtec acts really funny, it sometimes work sometimes doesnt.
we have check the vtec solenid and it is good, the voltage is ok.

i was think it could be the oil pressure sending unit but he has had this problem since september of last year and if the sending unit was going bad it would of already went out, right?

also i was thinking it could be the oil pump itself picking up trash and screwing with the vtec. or it might just be a good old ground out somewhere in the wiring from the ecu to the solenid.

oil,fuel,timing?

 

vtec needs proper oil pressure to function properly, with low pressure vtec doesnt engage or engage properly neway, check ur oil level as well as oil sending components. maybe install an oil pressure sensor if there isnt one already see whats goin on in there
