Default 1988 CRX suspension Question

alright, it's bout to time throw on some new springs and shocks/struts. I'm planning on gettin a eibach prokit, and I was planning on getting some tokico illuminas or blues, but then I realized the 88 had front shocks and rear struts? or vice versa I forget. Any suggestions on what route I can take for upgrading each? (I'm just looking for a good ride that looks good for my daily driver)
Thanks

88Cardrex,
The 88-91 generation of CRXs has shocks all around. The first generation had struts up front. I had the Tokico blues on my old Integra and was very happy with them. If your car is a daily driver, they should be fine. If you do some autocrossing, then you might want to check out the illuminas. I think I'm going to go with the blues for my CRX when the time comes to swap out the shocks...they are 19 years old after all...

Civic and CRX had Struts (springs sit on a perch around the hydrolic) not Shocks (spring and hydrolic are seperate like on most Pickup trucks).

FouthGenHatch,
I think the initial post was referring to whether or not he had McPherson struts or shocks. McPherson's don't use springs, but a torsion bar setup. The second generation CRX did not use McPhersons, but a typical double A arm and shock setup. I have never heard of something being called a shock or a strut based on what type of spring is used.

My brothers Mazda MX6 has a MacPherson Strut Suspension and he has Independent front suspension (no torsion bar, never looked at the back though) and he also has Springs.

Discounttiresdirect call this a Shock...

and this a Strut...

Doesn't look like a Shock is supposed to have a spring (at least mounted to it), but Struts do.

Well whatever they are called all 88-91 fronts were the same. However the '88 had the bastard rear LCA with the eyebolt style as opposed to the fork style of the other years. You can't use 89-91 rear struts on your car without swapping out to that LCA. ITR struts however will fit your car.
