Default How to fix rocker panels on 89 civic si

Hey guys.....I bought an 89 civic si used, it needs a bit of work on the body. I've repaired a lot of the body so far but I need some input on how to go about fixing my rocker panels. They have rusted pretty bad and are really week. I don't have much cash so I was wondering if they is a desent way to fix them with materials such as: fibre glass and resin, bondo, sheet medal or any other farely cheap method. If anyone could help that would be great...thankyou

sTaRsKy,
This is a tricky call. If you have rust anywhere near the jack points, I'd advise against bondo as you would want to replace this with steel for structural integrity. I have some similar rust on the doglegs of my 1991 Civic, but I'm going to sell or donate that car soon, so I'm not interested in fixing it. If I had to fix it though, I'd weld in patch panels and then use some body filler to make it look pretty. That's not going to be cheap though.
If it's not structural, I'd try the fiberglass sheets with bondo above. Make sure you grind down to bare metal and glob some rustproofing in the channel to make sure rust comes back as slowly as possible.

ZiviCase10287,
Heh, sure, as long as you offer the same tax write off that the cancer society offers.

ZiviCase10287,
What I usually do with my cars after I'm done with them is to donate them to the Kidney association or the Cancer association. That way, I can write off the book value of the car on my taxes. I figure, it's better to get that write off than to fart around trying to sell the thing for $1100. In any case, after I'm done with a car, most people wouldn't be interested in it as it usually has major structural rust and other problems that I don't have a problem dealing with. Heh, this Civic had a colony of mice living in it this winter.
