Attn: 1stGENcrx Exhaust Question
I heard that a full cat exhaust wouldn't be as good as just an axel back exhaust for my 91 crx si...?
whats u think? what do u have on ur rex?

not sure what a full cat exhaust you are talking about (full aftermarket exhaust with hi flow cat) or just a catback
1stgencrxer has a straight pipe with no cat basically on an 1st gen crx dx
as for the full exhaust (with cat) versus a stock exahust with stock cat with just an axleback you'll get more power b/c an axle back will do little when the stock exhaust before remains the bottle neck where a well designed full exhaust with hi flow cat would not have that problem
not sure what your source is but the d16a6 (2nd gen crx si) exhaust is restrictive

It really depends on your mods, more than anything. It's illegal to remove a cat from a car that came with one from the factory, if that's a concern where you live, but typically you'll want to go up on piping diameter slightly when putting in a new exhaust.

yea, all cars need some backpressure in their exhausts. for a 1.6L, 2.0" to 2.25" would ideal piping size [diameter] because they flow more air than stock, but still have some backpressure.
therefore, the greddy full exhaust will pretty much beat out any axelback, because the stock piping is too restrictive.
is the kid that is saying "an axelback is better then a full exhaust" trying to sell an axelback system

No no no no no no no...
Back pressure is a side effect from reaching a reasonable compromise between maximizing exhaust velocity and CFM of exhaust. Engines do not "need" back pressure, it just happens that no exhaust possible will flow 100% of the exhaust an engine produces while simultaneously keeping exhaust velocity high for best scavenging effect, without generating some back pressure.
Back pressure impedes the flow of exhaust, and on a little four cylinder, you want to move the exhuast as efficiently as possible so that the maximum amount of fresh air/fuel mix possible is brought into the cylinder for combustion.

I'd go ahead and get a full exhaust.
