Default Cat back exhaust

I went to a muffler shop and told the guy I wanted 2 1/2 inch piping from the cat back. So he put it up on the lifter and took a look at my car. and said the biggest he could put on there is 2 1/4. Is 2 1/4 big enough? $275 is what he'll charge me to put on the 2 1/4 piping from the cat back but I told him I didn't want the cat on and he said thats fine. He'd put my muffler on too and it will exit straight out on the passenger's side. Does this seem like a good deal or not? Is getting a cat back exhaust even worth the money since i have a 89 Crx DX auto and dont plan on swapping anything powerful into it?

2 1/4 is more than enough for an N/A car. too large of piping (2.5) may cause unwanted backpressure.
