What's The Best Way ?
Way to beat emissions in MD. This will be my 4th time taking test. Haven't been able to catch up with my mechanic.
The last time I took test my mechanic gave me a 91 LS ECU to borrow because my PR3 ecu is chipped which I know dumps more fuel. Anyways, when I took test you have to take rpms up to 2500 & let car idle & repeat then 2500 rpms again. It failed both test.
Now I installed a fresh set of plugs & re installed my PR3 ecu. I know to drive for at least an hr to get car hot. When I have to take rpms to 2500 could I maybe beat test by letting car go to 3000 rpm to maybe beat this test. They gave me til Jan 28th.
Any suggestions appreciated.

this is a loaded test right>? i mean on the dyno? cause it sound like theyre doing a tsi test on it.
anyways, cant really cheat on that otherwise the test equipment will abort the test right away due to a higher rpm.
best thing to tell you is buy the cleaner at kragen which guarantees you to pass the smog test. however, i dont really know if it does work,. but in your case, worth the shot.

Well, I tried that guarantee pass emissions stuff on my 2nd test & failed. Now since it's been more than 1 test only thing they make me do when I get there is the 2500 rpm test & idle.
Guess I'll stay at 2500. I might try when I get there waiting in line is rev engine up to like 2000 rpm's til it's time so maybe it'll help. We'll see.

what emmission failed? or was it aborted due to fact that the test rpm is not within the limit?
high co--- rich condition
high o2 u got an air leak before the 02
high nox means ur cars engine is getting to hot inside which could be due to carbon deposit or your egr is not working if you got one or the part of your cat that controls this is shot.

-I don't think the CRX had EGR (my '91 CRX Si with California emissions doesn't)
-when my car failed due to high NOx in 2004, I pulled the head and scrubbed all the carbon off the top of the pistons and cleaned the head (pulled valves, removed all carbon build up from exhaust valves, cleaned any dirt buildup from intake manifold, etc.) result: NOx was just low enough to pass
-in 2006, I replaced the catalytic converter. This drove my emissions to almost zero across the board.
-in 2008, I passed smog. But, NOx was getting close to the limit again.
What were the smog readings for your test?
If it was high NOx, replace the cat. (I got one online for $110 including shipping.)
Take Care,
ChrisS

you are running way too rich. if you fix the fuel problem, your hc will go down as well.
check your fuel pressure regulator hose, pull it out and see if its wet or not. if it is, replace the regulator.
o in your case, i think you should put a pcm that belongs to that engine as well.

I'll try that, but what is a pcm? Another thing if I had to get another fuel regulator can I use a 99-00 Si or have to get another 1 gen fuel regulator..
