Default Problem with stereo system

I have the original 6 disc changer/tape player that came in the '90 civic hatchback. I bought 4 new Kenwood speakers and installed them, but the sound is a little off. When I have the balance (front to back) in the center, only the left side speakers play, and when I go a little to the front, both the left and right speakers will play, but then of course the music isn't as loud in the back.
The other problem is with the 6 disc changer. It plays the cd, but I can't hear the music. I can see that it's reading the cd and actually playing it, but no sound is being outputted. I hit a bump while driving and heard the cd start playing in the middle of the song, as if it was playing all along. I hit another bump and it got a little static and stopped output again. Is the stereo just getting old, or are there messed up connections?
Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

you have to check all your speaker wires from the speakers to the stereo. your best bet is to replace them. a simple trick to that is when you pull out the old wires tie the new ones to the old ones and when you pull them out the new ones will be in their place.

Might be that you wired up the speakers incorrectly, is it factory wiring? I have the wiring diagrams should you need the color coding.
