Blacktop Browntop? ZC?

This may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between a blacktop and a browntop jdm zc . I keep running across the term used in descriptions for used engines. Appreciate any enlightening. Thanx.

i believe brown is a first gen, and black is a 2nd gen.

Yup, yup. The black top DOHC ZC is the engine which you will need if you want to put it in a 2nd Gen CRX or 4th gen civic.

There are some diffence in the specs as well, I don't know the browntops off hand though.
