Default Bad gas mileage

I have a '81 Civic 1500DX hatchback. It is in great condition, with only 95k miles on it. Totally stock.

The thing runs amazing...quiet, strong (I mean, as strong as it gets), and starts up great (unless it is really really cold, then it takes some pumping).

However, I am only getting around 26 MPG. That doesn't seem like much at all, considering it is not even 1800 pounds. Is there anything I should look for? Maybe the carb needs cleaned? I mean, there really isn't anything to the car.

TIA

Things to look at:
-vacuum lines (for cracks and loose connections)
-air filter
-charcoal fuel vapor recover "filter" and its connecting hoses
-carburetor float (could be close to becoming a sinker)
-fuel mixture (maybe way too rich)
-engine timing
-valve clearances
