Default 88 Civic HB Speedometer Doesnt Work

Whats goin on guys
Well i got into my car the other day and noticed the speedometer wasnt working. All the other gauges work fine...cept for the speedometer.
I looked throught the forums and all and came down to thinking it was the vss, but when i called in for one they told me my car didnt have one, that its probably a cable. Soooo now im stuck here wondering what it is
anyone have any ideas?

I guess the cable could've come loose/broke somehow...if the other gauges all work fine that would be my guess.

Was your speedometer needle bouncing sometimes prior to this?

It has a vss, it's in the cluster, driven by the cable.

Never done it myself, and it could vary a little from one model to another, but I think the biggest headache tends to be getting it through the firewall. Some people rig up a special tool er something.. been a while since I read whatever I'm referring to.

yeah well im sure ur right, the speed cable is extremely easy to remove from both ends but as far as the firewall goes i have no idea except trying to find one that would possible feed through the firewall then clamp the connector on once its through.

it was actually more than extremly easy for me, seeing as the car is gutted out completly.I just disconnected the two ends and pulled it right out the firewall. Sometimes when im driving i can feel the air from the outside coming in through the hole
