Best tranny for ls vtec
i have an 88 ls vtec hatch with cable tranny, i was just wonderin what would be the best tranny to get, im not tryna go with the hydro to cable conversion but i might have to, i read that the b16 tranny cant handle the power as good. i was thinkin of gettin a built tranny with differnt gears and aftermarket LSD. the motor is pretty much stock i might thrown in some ctr pistons or someting but hte head is built. im not goin for turbo either just all motor

i have to disagree with all of you(flame me all you want but it will make sense if you read why). your gearing is going to be based on your powerband. you want to stay within vtec, and your powerband. by going with a short geared transmission you could possibly cut out 1-2k rpms on your powerband or even shorten your vtec band. go with a complete custom gearing tailored to your set-up will always be the best. why not take advantage over every piece of your powerband/vtec.

You don't want to stay in the powerband, but get through it as fast as you can. The faster you get through it, the faster you will accelerate every time.

you are not paying attention to what i am saying. SO you don't mind cutting your powerband in 1/2 in every gear? you are hampering you acceleration. if you powerband starts at 4.5 and ends at 8k. everytime you shift you'd want to be 400-500rpms from the bottom of your powerband, not 2-3k from the bottom. you are losing acceleration. this is the reason why a B16a trans, and a GSR trans have different gearing. the powerband starts, and ends at different points. the transmissions were designed for their respected powerbands.
