Default Old 87 Si- Idle issues?

I figured maybe you guys could help me out before I limp (figurativey, it still drives fine) my 87 Civic Si to the dealer for a tech inspection. The problem is, when it is about halfway through warming up the idle will bounce between the 1500 cold idle and the standard 750 idle, and it will do this for a few minutes until it warms up and catches itself. From there, it idles as normal. I have already replaced the cap and rotor, plugs, and wires to no avail. Also, when I am driving and rev over 3.5k the tach jumps all around, till about 1000 from redline- then it goes up smooth. I know the clutch is getting weak, but that tach problem might help explain what is going on with my idle. TIA!

Anyone? I also replaced the PCV valve and fuel filter, I forgot to mention that. I'd rather not pay the $ for a diagnostic test!

Sounds like a leak in the throttle body gaskets to me. If not that, start checking for some vacuum leaks. Our cars are pretty old, the rubber stuff is aged.
