The environment, yes.... Your wallet, certainly (tickets for loud exhaust).... Your engine, no...

But honestly: breathing > speed.

And no Im no tree hugger... I just dont think we should gut our cats out for what 5 more HP?

A friend of mine put a high flow cat on his 91 Civic si, got the performance boost he wanted and quieted down his exhaust note.

I don't know how honda engines work with gutted cats as I am new to them, but many modern american motors get less performance when you gut the cats. They need a certain amount of backpressure to build RPMs more effectively. Cars smell a whole lot better when they have cats and won't tip off your competition if you own a sleeper car.

One of my cars dyno'ed an eight wheel horsepower increase after gutting the factory cats.

In the overall scheme of things, a Honda four cylinder with no cat isn't much of a problem. As long as it is in good shape with smooth injectors, fresh plugs and other basic tune-up jobs done, it is still pretty clean.

If you want to worry about the air, rip on Rotary guys (ahem...) and domestic V6/V8 folks.

That is true... But every little bit helps... When I goto the park, or out fishing (which I do alot), it'd be so easy for me to leave my drink cups, soda cans, and styrofoam worm containers laying around, and I doubt theyd hurt anything other than looking like crap, but as lazy as I am I pick them up and dispose of them in the trash... Just because theres people out there who just throw bags of trash on the side of the road, dosnt make it ok for me to leave a soda can just laying around... My point is, I just like to do my part, even if its a small part... Because if enough people do it, it will be a big problem... I just dont believe a few HP are worth the possibility of hurting the atmosphere, and that anything put there to help, should stay... At the very least put a high flow cat on, but atleast some sort of filter there... But again, thats just me...

i put on the high flow cat, i didnt like having the gutted cat, it sounded shitty and the high flow one sounds so much better. i think it helped with performance also, not as much open space for the exhaust gases to get confused. lol thanks for the advice.
