I just bought a 88 crx si and its having problems.. It doesnt start because i think the timing is off. Like it wont turn over. Could also be a spark plug.. or wire.. also when im driving down the road about 4 miles later the car will shake and shimmy a little. then the check engine light will come on, then the car will run smooth.. My buddy thinks that could be a O2 sensor.. If anybody could help me with how to time my car.. please do.. im a amature

 

Could be O2... or it could be the tps sensor, or fuel injector circuit problem. Pull up the carpet and check out your codes, then post them here for a better diagnosis.
As far as not starting, so it cranks but doesn't start? Timing could definitely be a culprit, so if u think it's off, then check it with a timing gun. I would also check everything electrical, then move to fuel. Check spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition circuit, and if all that's okay, then check your fuel pump and fuel injectors for proper operation. Could be a main relay problem...search and you'll find plenty on the notorious main relay.

 

i just started it cuz i left if to sit over night.. It started but then the car shaked and then the engine died.. So it has to be the timiing.. right??

 

it could be your mapping sensor or if not the prob its off timing 180"
