jdm swap passing smog
okay i have swapped a jdm d15b sohc vtec. i just went to get it smogged today and failed. I was high in NO 15mph:3350 25mph:2988
Here is a copy of the the report. http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/4...titled17ia.gif
My question is.....Is it even possible to get this jdm motor to pass? And if so, how. In advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

check the EGR, Your timing is off and you have a check engine light, run the codes and fix em.

Did you convert to OBD1? I honestly dont know much about Smog laws (we dont have them here yet) but I heard you have to convert to keep it legal...

i wish just running the codes would solve the problem. it is a jdm d15b swap. thus i dont believe i have all of the smog parts needed. okay checked codes and o2 sensor came up. along with some automatic something or other code. when i get a chance tomorrow i will check the timing and egr.
And as for the second reply yes i did convert to obd1 and am running a p08 ecu.

According to your Smog test, your car doesn't have EGR (EGR visual and EGR functional are marked N/A; that's too bad, EGR brings down cylinder temps which brings down NOx)
1. new air filter
2. set the valve clearances
(1&2 will make sure the engine has the air it needs)
3. set the timing
4. gap the plugs (or gap the new plugs)
(3&4 will drive your HC counts down and get CO2 upto about 14 or 15%)
5. look at all the vacuum hoses (no cracks in the hoses, all hoses fit tight on their proper attachment points; your smog report says all vacuum lines are present and attached properly.)
High NOx means high temperatures inside the cylinders when they fire. It could be carbon buildup on top of the pistons or on the inside of the head(causing compression to go up slightly and retaining heat) _or_ the catylic converter is old and tired. There are chemical cleaners to get rid of carbon buildup. When I had a high NOx problem, I pulled the head and did a bunch of cleaning; but, if your swap is relatively low mileage there should not be much carbon buildup. You can get a new cat for about $110 (and that will drive down NOx, CO, and HC).

d and b series motors do not come equipped with EGR.
