Default 1990 Honda Civic

Hey Everyone,

i have a 1990 honda civic lx...and i am trying to replace my thermostat..and i am having problems finding where the thermostat is...can anyone help me find it and i was wondering how hard is it to change...i heard it wasnt very but i am just wondering. I read in a chiltons that there is an air conditioning thermostat is that what it is?? cuz i am trying to fix my heater because it will blow hot air when my car warms up for about 10 seconds then its back to cold air..and i was told it might be the thermostat.

thanks

if anyone can help email me at oaklandraiders8418@yahoo.com i will greatly appreciate it.

follow the bottom radiator hose from the radiator up to the engine (behind and below distributor) - where the hose ends, it connects to the thermostat housing - remove the housing and you will see the thermostat

Dont forget to drain the coolant tho, or atleast some of it into a clean bucket... The drain spout for the rad is on the bottom on the pass side, its a small white piece u turn with your hands... Some coolant will still spill out so just be ready for it, if u want u can drain the block aswell but I never do... Then take off the intake tubing (black peice that goes from your black box to the intake manifold) this will give u better access to the thermostat housing, and its right there where jlicrx said it is...

We are not talking about the coolant thermostat here. His A/C is stuck on for some reason.

The A/C "thermostat" (thermostatic expansion valve) is non-servicable for the average Joe.

Obvious question: Did you turn off the A/C? Did the light on the switch turn off?

Ok so its the AC Thermostat then? I was told it was just the thermostat.. Because after my car warms up for a bit i can turn on the heat..and it blows heat for maybe 10 20 seconds then it slowly goes cold. I am not sure but i believe the light on the switch is off.

OK, your wording threw me off.

You problem could be the coolant thermostat, located as previously mentioned. If it is stuck open, you could rapidly loose heat when you swich to "hot" inside the car.

Ok so could i fix this easily if its stuck? like maybe tapping it or something? or should i just pay and have it fixed. But its just so confusing cuz people are telling me diffrent things..my thermostat is what i was told so my mom bought a thermostat. So i am wondering if i should go have that looked at. Is that pricey to have that fixed? the coolant thermostat that is? I mean cuz it has just been confusing the shit out of me. The A.C button light turns on and off when i push it. I been told a number a things it could be the thermostat...the heater core and the coolant theromstat. But i am needing to get heat in my car because my son is gonna be it in and i need heat. so i am wondering how pricey something like that be, i mean i am an average joe so i know i cant fix that.

Ok so how pricey would it be to have the coolant thermostat fixed? i mean i am like so annoyed with it because i have my son in the car and i need heat. I been told it could be the heater core, the thermostat and coolant thermostat. is that pricey to fix? i mean i know i cant because i read in my chiltons on it that it needs to be charged and such and i dont have the tools or know how for that. Should i just call around and ask? which i probably should do but just wondering if anyone else could tell me if it is expensive to fix.
