Default random bit of CRX Si knowledge for the forum

I'm sure most of you already know this, but for those of us who do not...

a stock CRX Si will run happily on 89 octane gas with the spark timing advanced as far as the distributor will advance. The advance makes a small but noticable power increase after about 2,500 rpm.

I find I get better gas mileage with higher octane fuel. Up here at 5000 ft. they sell 85...as low and 87 as mid. So I get the ol' 87!!!

They say because of the altitude (Denver) 85 is OK...but the gas mileage isn't as good and it runs a little rougher. Atleast that's what I've found.

Would there be any downside to doing this. What are the other benifits if any. Oh sorry for the noobie ? but advance is toward the firewall right.

Really no downside, unless you are detonating.

right, and you get a slight decrease in low-end torque below 3,000rpm or so. Not like a Honda has any low-end torque to begin with, but it's the trade off of havin a slightly stronger top-end.

I advanced my **** yesterday and it started idling itself from 900 to 1500 over and over so I stopped and fixed it back. It did feel slightly better but I still have a alt problem that I thought was fixed but It will be today.
