It seems that a friend of mine had his hatch fully open when the hatch slipped and slammed shut. Now the problem:

The hatch latch mechanism doesn't lock the hatch. Has anyone else had this problem? I replaced the mechanism with one from a junk yard but that didn't help one bit. It still doesn't work. Anyone have any suggestsions as to what to fix this? I can't seem to close his trunk after hours of fiddling with it. The actual mechanism works fine but it seems like there is plastic on the piece of the latch that is broken, now when i replaced it with the junk yard one, it still didn't work. could something be bent to where the trunk doesn't close? My last resort is to make a custom latch and extend the actual latch itself and pray it closes. thanks for ur help guys.

 

some one broke into my rex and broke my hatch latch...the plastic piece. i was planning on replacing it so when i do i'll see what happens. By the way... my hatch closes but i have to slam it pretty hard.
