Default Mini-Me Swap Help

Hi, I am thinking of doing a mini-me swap into my 91 civic hb, I am going to be using the d15b2 bottom end with a d16z6 head, I wanted to know if it would be possible to use just the head and then use my si ecu, dizzy, and intake manifold on the d16z6 head? I dont want to have to search for all that crap by itself then have to convert to obd1, I head I could as long as I use a vtec controller to engage the vtec. Thanks

Well usually, you can find a complete head, with the intake mani, dizzy, VTEC solenoid, ect for about $200... That only leaves out the ECU, which can be found for about $100-$120... Versus the cost of a VTEC controller, which go for about $200+ for a decent one (Apexi) that handles A/F and VTEC... Then on top of that, u have to get it tuned by a professional... Anyone can tune it to do VTEC at X amount of RPMs, but you also need to find the right amount of A/F to add to the mixture, otherwise you might as well just throw on an RPM activated switch and call it a day... Which will def hurt performance...

Now thats $100 less to just buy the ECU and do it right, but the only thing is the wiring... You can do it yourself, and save that $100 you saved, or you can get an OBD0 to OBD1 harness for about $100, so that puts you about even with the VTEC controller (not including the tuning youd need with the controller), and its done the way Honda intended...

but i hear bad things about the D16Y8, that it creates WAY to much compression and can cause detonation of the fuel causeing a blown block. would it be safer to just go with a D16Z6 head swap? he gave me the money i just have to supply the parts

Well, the Y8 is a good candidate because the stock OBD0 dizzy can be used without modifications... Im not sure about compression and detonation, but im sure it can be counteracted with a higher octane fuel...

BTW Mojo, wrong thread, I was getting too yours... :lmao:
