Default Radiator Fan

Right now im going through the loose unconnected wires left on my hatchback from the careless previous owner. There was a manual fan switch made to the fan as a quick fix. Now in the Haynes manual it says theres suppose to be a thermal fan sensor near the lower radiator hose (sensor socket doesn't exist on this radiator), but if theres no thermal sensor, there shouldn't be a thermal fan switch right? I found a loose socket that would fit into the fan socket, Blue wire/Yellow on Black wire. I've tried running it with this connection but it doesn't active the fan at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

if the engine is OBD0, the cooling fan switch is located on the back of the block, next to the oil filter - 2 wire connector, looks like a big rubber boot
