Default What type oil weight is the best for B16a?

I just changed my oil on my B16a and I put in straight 40. The bottle says 40HD at the top. Is this oil better for my car? It eats up alot of oil with VTEC and all. Someone told me that straight 50 is the best, but I went a notch down and tried 40. Will there be any adverse affects from it?

Straight 40 is way too heavy, it will put a lot of extra strain on the entire engine. Use 10W30 (in normal climates) like it was designed for.

Would my car run better with Synthetic?

Not noticably, but synthetic does have advantages (none the least of which is decreased wear.)

It shouldn't burn any oil, and VTEC wouldn't make any difference in oil consumption anyways, I run 10w30 Honda oil which is the same as mobil non-synthetic.

Instead of bandaiding the problem with thicker oil, why not fix the problem?

My thoughts exactly. I would first fix your engine, and then put some quality oil in there. 10W30 or 5W30 is a good weight.
