What could cause this problem, i have very lumpy and erratic idling.
The car has been parked up for three years, alot of black carbon deposits come out the exhaust,
What do i check/do first?
Thanks
Harry

fuel filter is on the passenger side of the car. next to this black cylinder shaped apparatus with a couple of vacuum hoses coming out of it. The fuel filter has two fuel lines coming out of the top of the filter. Its black also. Heres is a link so you can check with everything you need to know. Its a free manuel for your civic. or what ever you drive. just type this in your search for google or msn, or wherever, just not the search at the top here.

i changed the fuel filter and new plugs, it ran perfect (as new) for about half an hour and then it went back to its normal bad self, i checked the injectors they are working fine, what else can i check, how do i check the o2 sensor?

Use the the link for the book as a reference. The o2 makes the car run rich so maybe the o2 needs replace. Its a bitch to do. I changed mine by unbolting the header on top and bottom to move it around a little. I didint take it out though.
