Default B16a bottom end question

OK, here's the story, I had to replce my bottom end on my B16a1 DOHC VTEC. I bought a bottom end from this guy I know. It comes off of a B16a non VTEC, he told me that it will bolt right up and VTEC will still be working. Is this tru, or will there need to be modification. I know that the head determines VTEC, not the bottome ned. So will a B16a DOHC VTEC head put onto a B16a non VTEC bottom work?

I would probably go for the LS or CR vtec route with this one if you have the extra bit of cash.
