Default instrument cluster swap

I searched the forums for an answer to this, and since I found that it is possible in the newer civics, I was wondering if you could swap a crx instrument cluster in for a civic cluster. I want to use the crx cluster since it has the tach, and the civic does not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My civic is a 1990, and I am looking at getting a 1991 crx si cluster.

A Civic Si would have a tach... But yes, it will work... I think the only issue is the Civic instrument cluster and its bezel (surrounding) is square, where the CRX is round... So the CRX def looks better IMO, but your have to get the bezel as well... Lemme see if I can find a write up on it... If I do, Ill post it...

Here is a writeup i did on this when i replaced my cluster.

This is for removing the old cluster.

This is for installing the new cluster.

The round-square thing Exempt was talking about is only an issue if you are installing 90-91 cluster in 88-89 civic, or 88-89 cluster in 90-91 civic. 88-89 clusters were more squarish and 90-91 are round. So if you're saying you're installing a cluster from 91 into 90 - you should have no problems.

Notice i had some more problems when installing the cluster since i had to repin connectors because i was installing EDM cluster into USDM civic. You most likely won't have such problems.

You can use ANY 90-91 Cluster w/tach...it does not mattter. You can use the Lx,Ex,Si or ANY CRX cluster. They will all fit and plug n play. You don't need to swap bezels or anything.Done this a couple times.

O, I knew there was some that were squared and some round... Thought it was the Civics from the CRXs tho, didnt know it was the yrs... Thanks for the correction...

One thing tho, is the CRX HF, not sure about others, has a Redline of 5500... So if u use that one, it will still work like normal, just look like your redlining... There was someone who had a pic of them at like 7k on a HF cluster, he says he always messes with ppl, they always think hes way in the red and hes hasnt even hit it most of the time...

Alright guys, I have another question if any of you has the time, or inclination to help me. I am looking for the wiring diagrams for the two instrument clusters. Apparently, there were a few differences, and a lot of the parts do not work as they should. The cluster I am trying to swap to is a 1991 crx si cluster with the tach, and I am having a hell of a time finding any wiring diagrams that include the instrument cluster, I have a chilton's manual, but it does not include the complete wiring diagram. I have also tried all data, but they inform me that they are currently unable to sell any Honda information at this time. So please, if you have any suggestions do not hesitate to let me know.

What kind of wiring are you interested in? Do your lights light up wrong? For example, if you open your door then your oil light comes on? You pull your hand brake and your check engine light comes on?

If so - read http://public.carnet.hr/~kpuljic/honda/new_cluster

You should not have to wire in ANYTHING!!It is plug n play,i have swapped these out severla times and they always work for me.Makes no difference what iti s going into,as long as it is a 90-91 cluster into a 90-91 Civic/Crx,it makes no difference.
How hard is it to plug in harnesses?
