Default 4x4 civic

why dont i ever see those old 4x4 civics with H22s in em? seems like that would be a great car to swap an engine into. ive never seen this done. why is this? seems like an old civic with awd would be prime for modification.

There should be a sticky about 4WD Civics.

A 4WD Civic Wagon might be good for rallycross or fun in a snow covered parking lot with a stock or slightly modified engine. But if you're thinking about drag strips, sticky tires and big horsepower, start thinking of a different car. Things will break. I don't think it would be very easy to bolt the H22 to the 4WD tranny anyway.

they are fun to drive but anything more then a d series swap would defininatly be costly and not very practical. I do wonder if the basics of the 4wd wagon are at all the same as the crv or if that system could somehow find its way into a wagon. There are mounts for b series engines?????????

ya i was afraid the drivetrain might be pathetically weak. wouldnt it be cool to put a turbo ZC in there and woop on all the WRXs :naughty:

Yeah, the problem is that they quit making them (only made them) in the third generation, so the only swap really possible to keep the AWD would be a browntop ZC. Even that engine is a bit much for the AWD transmission, but one can dream!

I'm probably wrong but I believe most all d series engines including the d16z6 and y8 and so on all should bolt in and on to the 6speed tranny. The brown top is from the teg isn't it. I believe the zc for our cars has a black top. I know there is at least one 4wd wagon running around with a jrsc on it.

No I'm positive there were also 4th Gen 4x4 Wagons.

Really? That, I didn't know. I thought AWD ended in 87, but I just looked it up and of course I am wrong Sorry!

Supposedly the Wagon and CRV's drivetrain works in a similar way but the CRV is more complicated without getting any results better than the old Wagon.

But if 4x4 was a reasonable swap I would be all over it. The handling would be amazing on a hatch body.

I would have bought one if the wagon body wasn't so godda*m ugly! If my Si hatchback was AWD, that would be crazy fun. Maybe one day I'll get around to buying a wagon for novelty purposes, just a screw-around-and-have-fun car.
