Blower fan issues :(
I have a 91 civic with a b16a2 swap.
About a week ago, I was driving along when all of a sudden I smelled something reminiscent to manure (could have been burning insulation). I thought it was coming from outside, so I just turned off the heat and ignored it. When I got home, I turned the heat back on and was hit with the smell again. I noticed a whirring noise coming from the location of the blower motor, and the air was barely coming out. I had no time to work on the car so I just left the problem alone. Sometimes the fan would kick in, sometimes it wouldn’t. When it did kick in, it would barely blow any air, and it made that annoying hissing sound. When the fan refused to turn on, flicking the recirculation switch back and forth rapidly usually kicked it in. Doing so also made a strange sound that seemed to be coming from under the glove box. It sounded like an echoing banging sound; as if the air-duct shudder/choke or whatever was bouncing around. It’s supposed to rain all week, and I have no way to de-fog my windows now.
What could be wrong? If anyone has had a similar experience, please post your solution.
If nobody knows what the problem could be, an explanation on how to reach the blower motor would be most appreciated.
-Thanks
