Default 91 hatch dx swap info

Hey guys, my buddy has a 91 civic dx hatch & his motor is weak & smokin! What straight forward swaps or close to straight forward are there for his model, i'm used to dealing with the 92-95 obd1 stuff & just figured i'd ask because i'm not sure his motor is going to make it through the summer!

Thanks for any info..

i'm mainly curious about a b18a1 for it coz we have an extra one sittin here. lemme kno! thanks

For the B18A1, youd need B-series motor mounts (which im sure u knew that), and Im not sure about the ODB type of that... The DX would be ODB-0, so if thats OBD-1 youd have to wire that up... And wire up MPFI (goes for any swap into his DX)... But as far as straight up swaps (no mount kits, little wiring), the DOHC ZC (gen2 ZC, not the gen1 ZCs (stamped D16A1) found in the USDM Integras, or a 4th gen Civic/CRX Si (D16A6) swap... Also u have the EG Civic EX/Si (D16Z6) or EK Civic EX/Si (D16Y8), but those are OBD-I, and OBD-II, so youd to wire that up on those 2... I think of all the straight up swaps, this would probably be the best, since itll be OBD-I, and makes tuning it, alot easier... Almost forgot about the JDM D15B, which is SOHC VTEC, not the D15B we have in the US... Its also OBD-I, but wont require a mount kit...

Thats great info!

The B18a1 is obd0 which i would probably leave if we did put that into there, but i'm thinkin that the D16a6 would probably be the best bet for him as far as cost wise & probably less wiring.

The d16a6 is obd0 still.

When you said about wiring up the MPFI, i'm guessing that this is because the 91 dx is probably dual point vs. the d16a6 which i'm sure is multi-point. What all is involved in that?

if anyone has a complete list of details on the D16a6 into the 91dx please post!

Also, just thinkin.. if were just lookin for an upgrade in power & what not.. would we be better off just swaping over the head. I can get my hands on another one of his identical blocks for next to nothing incase he blows it up & were not afraid of a little work.

Info on the MPFI swap: (from the FAQs thread at the top of the forum)

http://www.angelfire.com/d20/hcivic88/dx-siwiring.html

http://www.geocities.com/teampimports/fuelinj.html

http://www.geocities.com/c_rexboy/mpfi.html

http://www.fourthgenhatch.com/mpfi.html

All, look like great info on them...

As for head swaps, theres another thread about this, I suggested the MPFI swap, over the head swap, because the heads are so similar, it wouldnt be worth it to just swap those... But if u swap both, im sure it would be a good solution as well... Then maybe an Si tranny, as they are geared for speed rather than economy...
