Default Wheel Hop!!!

Hey I have an 89 civic 4door LX 1.5L and for the past six months whenever I make a turn My car squeaks or if I hit a pot hole it sounds like my wheel hops. The dealer told me that it was a ball joint in the upper control arm that is causing all the noise and hopping. Is there any other factor that could attribute to this noise and hopping? And when I have the wheel turned all the way either left or right there is this kinda grinding noise. I have replaced both axles and springs. HELP!!!

It's probably the ball joint like the dealer said. I had the same problem after my swap till eventually it just seperated and I had to replace it. But if you replaced both axles already than I don't know what else to suggest.

it could also be your motor mounts...check the 3 mounts on the tranny and get a good look at the rubber to see if they are shredded or completely detached

How old are your front shocks? It may be the upper ball joint- is it loose? How are the bushings on the upper arm? Are the new springs stock or after market?

You may check the tie rods also (inner and outer), only because of the turning the wheel all the way to the left or right makes a grinding noise?

When you hit a bump does it sound like something mechanical is bumping around or just feels like wheel hop? Have someone drive next to you and watch your wheels when you hit some bumps- do they hop or get pushed backwards?

I had a problem like that I had a '89 Hatchback "totalled" with a B16 swap, 1 of the 2 bushings from the front radius rod was gone.
I'll post pictures as soon as I get my camera to work

if your mounts are worn, ripped, torn, etc. get on eaby.com and grab some ES Motor mount inserts for 22.00 bux it will fix them right up, and i would also check how old ur struts/springs are, if they are blown/broken.. Good luck

well you'll never guess what happened to me sunday night. my lower ball joint tore into two piece and i went for a ride on the broke joint for a good 40 feet. which magled up my axle cuz the ****in wheel ripped it out of the tranny and it got caught in the suspension. so $388.15 later and i am back on the road! MOTHER FUNKER!
