Default Alternator Trouble In an 89 Civic 4dr LX

i have been having some serious trouble with my alternator in my civic. 1989 4 Door, LX. I bought a refurbished one from Auto Zone last April 2004 and I had to replace it because the voltage regulator burnt out in december . A month later it happened again . and I had to replace it yesterday. (Note: I live In upstate NY and having bad weather and I have no splash guard on the driver side.) The a**hole at auto zone said i should check to see if there is a short but if there was wouldnt the battery fry? Well anyone with any info that could help me out please reply asap. Thank you

Sorry to say this but its Autozone alternators. I have been through my share of autozone ones and they have never lasted me over a year. I have one in the wagon I sold to my bro and its having problems already and it was replaced sept 04. Try a different parts store I've had a reman from napa on my 90 si for about a year and a half no problems yet.

On my previous RX-7, I went through three Autozone alternators (one of which nearly killed my car) before I got a good reman. I sold the car shortly thereafter, I won't buy an Autozone reman again.

Vatozone alternators blow...literally Also if anyone ever tries to sell you a "USA Industries" remanufacured starter, alternator, etc, don't buy it they are total junk.

I've had an Autozone alt for about two years and 60,000 miles. No problems with it, yet. Just started to notice that with a lot of accessories on this morning that the instrument lights were diming alittle and a quick rev would bring em back.
